My Approach

I offer a safe and confidential space within which we will explore what is happening in any area of life, how to bring meaning to a situation, or to find ways to go forward.

My approach is to work with each person’s unique experience and own way of making meaning about their life. I work in a collaborative and co-creative way that is respectful of each person’s autonomy and wisdom to know or discover what they need. It is not my role to diagnose or pathologize a person’s experience. Rather it is to to accompany the people I work alongside, with a focus on how the person experiences themselves and others.

I value and respect difference and diversity and am open to working with all people, beliefs and ways of being.  I work with all people across the full spectrum of gender, sexuality and relationship diversity. I also work with groups and organisations. I am open to working with any aspect of a person’s life with a special interest in issues around intimacy, sexuality, conflict and loss.

My approach also sits within a view of psychotherapy as being embedded in the social, political and economic contexts, environment and power relations within which both the therapist and client lives. In this sense I do not regard the 'problem' being experienced or the process of change as being entirely located within the individual. I am instead committed to the development of a 'community psychology' where the person is always understood and related to as being situated with others in their life.

About Me

My practice as a therapist began in Australia some 35 years ago and Scotland has been my permanent home since 2001. Having come from a professional background in social justice and community development I trained as a Community Counsellor and a Narrative Therapist,  working within a wide range of contexts with individuals, families and groups. This breadth of experience included working within government, private and community settings with individuals, relationships and families.

I am also a qualified Group Therapist and Psychodramatist and offer the use of creative action methods in my work to explore aspects of self  and interpersonal relations.

Please note I am no longer offering long-term therapy to new clients and offer short-term therapy, for up to 20 sessions. I am a recognised with a number of insurance providers including AXA, Nuffield, BUPA, Onebright and AVIVA.
