My Approach

I have expertise in working with people who are finding it difficult to cope with life and its struggles.
Our struggle to cope may be related to extremely stressful, frightening and distressing experiences that we are experiencing or that we have experienced in the past.
Struggling to cope, we may experience anxiety, stress, panic, depression, anger.
Struggling to cope may also result in loss of self-esteem, loss of self-worth and loss of self-confidence.
We may notice that we are experiencing relationship difficulties at home and at work, struggling to effectively communicate, finding it difficult to form and maintain relationships with others.
In therapy, I create a safe, private and confidential space with you; a space that feels supportive, where you feel listened to and heard. It is a space where, at your pace and within your time frame, we will explore and talk about your experiences, working through your life struggles, so that you gain insight and understanding of the way that you are relating to your life and your life difficulties. This leads to an improved sense of well-being so that you feel more empowered to bring about change and find a more effective way of going on in the future.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Dealing with stressful, frightening and distressing experiences affects the way we think, the way we feel and the way we behave. We may feel overwhelmed and out of control; feel fearful, hopeless and helpless.
Couples who are struggling with the way that they are relating to each other have often ceased to be a safe haven for each other. The struggle is having a huge impact on each partner’s mood, their health and the way they are relating to friends and family. The struggle may be permeating and adversely affecting each aspect of each partner’s life.
Feeling disappointed with life, suffering low moods and generally feeling sad impacts our social and work life and the life of those close to us. Our sense of self-worth, self-esteem and self-confidence may also be affected.
Unhelpful family dynamics and tensions within the family affect every individual member of the family in diferent ways. Difficult family dynamics and tensions can lead to the creation of unhelpful alignments and ‘splitting’ within the family. Relationship breakdown within a family can lead to challenging, controlling and harmful behaviours between parent/s and child/ren.
Difficulties in forming or maintaining relationships often stem from childhood, when, as a child, we were unable to rely on a consistent and secure emotional connection to someone caring for us. These difficulties may affect us in adulthood as we struggle to trust and feel safe and secure in a relationship with others.
