The type of therapy I offer can be long-term or short-term depending on what is felt needed or possible at the start.
My approach to therapy is to work both with what is happening in the present ‘the presenting problem’ but also allow space to explore any previous experiences or patterns of behaviour that may be relevant to today’s feelings. This can be helpful in providing a wider understanding of what may be happening in life currently but also find new ways of coping and managing overwhelming or difficult feelings. I use CBT approaches alongside psychotherapy to help implement change if this is what is required or indeed possible.
I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with previous experience of counselling and CBT approaches. I have had a previous career in the criminal justice sector working with the probation services, courts and prisons. I now work in my own private practice, primarily from a quiet garden room at home making use of both face to face and online sessions. I trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with the Cambridge Society for Psychotherapy and in psychodynamic counselling with Chelmsford Counselling Foundation.
