My Approach

Family & Systemic Psychotherapy

About Me

Please view my website: www.kfts.co.uk

I have practiced as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist since 2010. I live and work in the Isle of Thanet Kent. I have a broad range of therapeutic interests and specialise in working with children and adolescents with complex social and mental health needs. I have been working therapeutically with children, families, adults and couples for over 18 years. Prior to becoming a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist I was employed within the following fields; the Probation Service, the Youth Justice Service, the Social Service, NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and adult community mental health service. I am currently employed within the NHS as a Clinical Lead for Family and Systemic Psychotherapy.

I provide independent assessments of adult, child and adolescent mental health. The assessment includes analysis of; psychological functioning, cognitive functioning, family functioning, emotional health and wellbeing, screening for mental health and behavioural difficulties and social and environmental factors that may impair the development of healthy emotional and behavioural responses. I provide comprehensive treatment plans and treatment programmes that use Systemic Family Therapy treatment modalities alongside other evidence based treatment options. I develop and implement creative intervention plans while working within difficult family and service level constraints.

The client groups I work with have often experienced disenfranchisement and disassociation from statutory services. I regularly undertake anti-discriminatory practice training and remain acutely aware of the relevance of examining issues of; race, gender, economic equality, disability, age, sexuality, ethnicity, power, class, education, religion and the cultural perspective of my clients. I make full use of clinical supervision and consultation where appropriate and I apply an openly reflective approach to my practice.

I have working knowledge of the legislative structure governing the care and treatment of Children and Young People both from a Mental Health and Social Care perspective. I have acquired extensive knowledge and practice skills in the provision of services to individuals who have been exposed to abusive relationships and traumatic experiences. I have worked with children, young people and adults who engage in harmful behaviours to themselves and to others. I have extensive experience of working with adults, children and adolescents who are suffering from severe organic mental illnesses; personality disorders and associated attachment based behavioural difficulties.

I provide individually tailored Family and Systemic Psychotherapeutic packages to groups, families, individuals and organisations that incorporate the following:

Systemic Family Psychotherapy
Relationship / Couples Therapy
