My Approach

I don't have all the answers, but I offer a safe space to explore. I have lots of time for figuring out past and present experiences and how they may impact and cause difficulties. I am deeply influenced by psychoanalytic thinking, existential appoaches, and social critiques that address the ways we live in society.

About Me

I completed a MA in sociology in Munich, then qualified in London as psychoanalytic psychotherapist in 1985. Since then I worked in many settings, and also supervised and taught psychotherapy students over many years. I have life experience of coping with a variety of challenges. Practicing psychotherapy has always been a constant throughout my life.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have been supervising counsellors working with victims of domestic abuse for many years, and gained a lot of experience in this field.
As I am getting older myself I am interested in this area. Who said "Old age is not for wimps'? I certainly agree. The complexities and build-up of what one has done in younger years, and how it all impacts on older age, but also the potential of new possibilities, its all worth exploring.
I have personal experience and I know about the journey. From the shock of the diagnosis to the treatment, including the impact on family and the long-term repercussions. In the face of a lot of medical interventions, and possibly pressures from family, the therapeutic relationship can be a place which allows one to be entirely open and address difficuly emotions in a supportive setting.
A very wide category, which may include a range of psychiatric diagnoses. Whilst medication may be helpful, ongoing psychotherapy can offer deeper understanding and may help to manage or even alleviate many mental health issues
I have supervised trainees and qualified therapists for many years. I have experience with beginning therapists, setting up practice, getting started, If appropriate I can suggest certain readings to support the client work. Supervision is one of my favourite professional activities, since the therapist brings not only the work itself but also reflections on what the work means to them. There is a layered potential for growth professionally and personally.
