My Approach

Some of my clients come in due to stresses in studying, work, couple issues, family obligations/conflict or life circumstances. Sometimes it is due to past trauma or an event which continues to affect them now in the aftermath. We work on processing, building resilience, practical aspects when appropriate and finding a way forward, with acceptance and compassion.

My intention will always be to keep your goals for therapy in mind and for us to discover resources alongside your sessions, to cultivate your inner resilience, strengths, curiousity and compassion. To move from a place of stuck-ness, stress or struggle to choice and flexibility.

As a relational integrative therapist, I use and combine elements from a wide range of contemporary and traditional therapy approaches including attachment theory, body mind connection (nervous system - regulation), psychodynamic theory, and trauma informed techniques. Sometimes we delve into the depth, impact and past of you and your life but we will also engage what will be practical and realistic for you to apply now.

I consciously cultivate and provide a private, non-judgemental, open space for you to feel comfortable, heard and able to talk about what is needed. I listen to what we sometimes can’t find words for but feel. Connecting to a deeper sense of what you may be contending with and who you are. Many of my clients struggle with overwhelm, shame, not feeling good enough, disconnection and wanting to understand who they really are. There is often a desire to feel joy more freely and to be themselves.

In my sessions we include identity, family and wider systems, how you view and relate to yourself and what these aspects currently mean in your life, world and community. I want to understand how do you function, what is your go to coping mechanism, internalised messages you carry, how has your upbringing and life experiences shaped you etc. This helps me to adapt and tailor the sessions completely to you and for us to work on what you want from the sessions.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I work from a perspective of thinking about impact, dynamics, how something felt for you and your version of events. We think curiously together and allow words to form for experiences that may have been too hard to do before. To think together and find a way forward, that feels right for you.
I work mainly online now and have done so prior to the covid pandemic. I have learnt and continue to be aware of, the many benefits and tricky parts of being online. Therefore, I will always try to include this in our work by thinking about how we build a safe, co-created space and what is the impact, how it feels to be online. Online sessions require a different frame of working and, particularly an awareness and openness of what this may look like and differ, from person to person.
I have an interest in relationships in our lives. Relationships starting with yourself, thinking about how you think, what beliefs you have and how treat yourself. I am curious and include all aspects of identity, such as generational, familial, cultural, age, gender, sexuality, race, disability, body and more. I use an attachment lens and relational way of working when considering how your relationships with community, family, romantic, friends and work etc form, are going and feel. We think, openly, deeply and constructively about what might be happening in these relationships, are there patterns/repetitions and where this may be located in your story. Futhermore, I am completing a training is psychosexual and relationship therapy which means I work with psychosexual issues such as pain during sex, erectile issues and arousal changes. Also with relationship conflicts, difficulties, pre-marriage explorations and separation.
I work with trauma using an integration of models, dependent on what you want and what is currently happening. I will include body and mind in our sessions. We work at a pace that is within tolerance and make sense of things together.
