I was trained in integrative body psychotherapy at the Chiron Centre. I work towards being an embodied practitioner and encourage my clients to be aware of their own bodies so that they are not governed solely by their mind. I take the the view that we are affected by our childhood and that will impact on how we are today. I work with clients to make links with the past and present, so that with more awareness, different choices can be make. I consider self-compassion to be very important and will encourage clients to have a mindfulness practice.
I have been working for 25 years as an integrative psychotherapist, I adapt my approach to suit the needs of the client so can work in a time limited way or focus more on personal process which is more open ended. I am trained in integrative supervision and work with individuals and group. I supervise students and experienced psychotherapists. I have also been a teacher for over 40 years, working in primary, secondary, tertiary and higher education. I have continued my CPD, training in attachment, compassion focused therapy, acceptance commitment therapy and working with trauma. I have a doctorate in psychoanalytic studies and my research was on voluntary childlessness.
I have continued with my professional development by attending conferences and seminars to keep abreast of changes in the profession. I have completed a PhD on 'How is childlessness and the decision whether to parent understood by psychoanalytic practitioners. I also continue to teach counselling and psychotherapy with the Open University.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
