My Approach

Each person’s journey is unique. It is important to me that I meet you where you are at now, to deeply listen to your story with empathy and compassion and to organically help you on your journey of healing, recovery and growth. My training in psychosynthesis enables me to work in different ways depending on what you need and the work we need to do. I can promise you that I will be caring and compassionate, that I will hold space for you to be with whatever you need to be with, even though you might feel scared and afraid and I will be gently challenging where needed and hold space for lightness and humour too that is also such an important part of the healing journey.

I hope that if you choose me for your therapeutic journey, that you have a sense now of how it will be to work with me. Please feel free to contact me to arrange a first meeting where you can tell me more about what you are struggling with, what you long for in life and what is getting in your way and we can then decide the next steps on your journey.

About Me

Hello and welcome to my profile! You are here because you are struggling and you are seeking help. It can be challenging to find a therapist and I want to affirm the courage it takes to take this really important step. Whether this is your first time seeking a therapist or you have experienced therapy before, I am very pleased that you are here and I hope I can help you with whatever you are going through.

My name is Sean, I am in my late fifties, have four grown up kids and live on the west coast of Ireland. I love the rawness of nature, and the simple things of life; close family, great friends and time to smell the roses. I also love motorcycling, zen meditation and kung fu and am passionate about helping men and women heal their psychological pain and suffering and reveal their deep authentic self to the world.

You are many things too, you have different aspects to who you are and you, just like me, are also much more than these different aspects too. I believe good therapy can reveal all this and help you both heal and grow into more of who you know ,deep down, your self to be.

I have worked for many years as a psychosynthesis psychotherapeutic counsellor with full accreditation with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, offering therapy in-person and online. During this time I have supported people from all walks of life who were lost and struggling, to embark on a journey of healing, growth and personal discovery.

There are many reasons to come to therapy:

• Maybe you feel knocked sideways by life and need a safe place to unpack what is going on for you and find hope and direction again.
• Maybe you are struggling with depression, stress or anxiety which is trapping you in a cycle of suffering and you want a way out.
• Maybe you’ve experienced physical, sexual or emotional trauma in your past that is now forcing its way to the surface and you want to finally do the necessary work to heal and step fully into your life.
• Maybe you’ve hit overwhelm and burnout and you see this as a wake up call to make important changes in life.
• Maybe you’ve hit relationship difficulties or your noticing patterns from the past that no longer serve you and you want to change the way you relate to yourself and others.

Whatever it is you bring or wherever you are in life, all of you is welcome here with me.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I am passionate about supporting men and women through life cycle transitions, midlife crises and engaging with the second half of life. Life cycle transitions offer a wonderful opportunity to pause and go inward and listen to the still small voice within that is gently calling us to live more fully as our true authentic selves. This is an area I have extensive experience both personally and through supporting clients one to one and in groups in my corporate work over many years.
Depression can take many forms and can lead to a myriad of symptoms, behaviours and coping strategies that undermine the deepest expression of who we are. My training in Psychosynthesis offers a hopeful, integrative and transformative process for understanding the root causes and healing of depression in order to facilitate the emergence of your vitality and will to live a full, engaged and vital life.
Divorce and separation can lead to a complete upheaval of life that can be devastating for our self confidence, sense of safety and security and can cause conflict, suffering, financial stress and a sense of feeling lost and overwhelmed. Divorce and separation can also be liberating, as the end finally arrives of a dysfunctional and toxic relationship that has stunted opportunity, happiness and growth. Divorce and separation also has huge implications for children in the relationship and wider family members. Therapy at this time can be hugely beneficial for support, boundary setting, emotional regulation and navigation of parental agreements and the divorce process. It is also an opportunity to reflect on what brought you to this point, understand the patterns and conditioning that might have contributed to the end of the relationship and the space to dream into the next phase of life.
Psychosynthesis is a psychospiritual approach to therapy and honours that we are both individual human beings with our unique needs, wants, desires, history and conditioning and spiritual beings that have the capacity to experience the higher aspects of life. In fact the revelation of our true selves in the world requires we build a strong and flexible sense of personal self which is informed by and connected to, the reflection of the divine. We are literally 'both and' in our doing and our being. I work with a secular view of spirituality that allows for the inclusion of all faiths and experiences in our journey to wholeness as a human being. This work is deeply important to me. I had a peak experience when I was 11 years old which gave me a chink of light during a very dark time and set the scene for my search in life for truth and authenticity. Whether you are with a spiritual emergence or spiritual emergency I can hold an honouring and supportive space for you to do the work you need to do.
We live and work in an 'always on' culture that is demanding ever more efficiency, productivity, innovation and performance. We work in roles and organisations that demand we always show up as our best no matter what else might be going on for us...and this is just in our work life. We are also trying to be our best at home for our family, kids and friends, to juggle the relentless demands and pressures of home and work life whilst also trying to find the time and energy to connect with ourselves too. It's no wonder stress, burnout and chronic illness are at record levels. I have worked with stress and burnout in one to one clients and in organisations for the last 9 years where I have developed a a comprehensive process of learning, techniques and strategies to help clients manage their energy and build a more resilient approach to life. I have also been through my own stress and burnout journey and honour the power of this process to again stop and take stock of life and re emerge with a renewed sense of meaning and purpose aligned to what is deeply important.
