I see people for regular appointments once, twice or three times a week, depending on what each person needs and is looking for. I offer time-limited therapy as well as longer term, open-ended therapy. My approach focuses on unconscious thoughts and feelings that exist outside awareness and have an effect on current life. Together we trace these back to their historical roots, consider how they have changed and developed over time and how you can cope better with the reality of your life situation today.
I am an experienced psychoanalytic psychotherapist, trained at the Guild of Psychotherapists in London, and now a member of the Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis. I work with adults of all ages who come to me suffering such problems as anxiety, depression, complex bereavement, damaged confidence, difficulties in relationships, creative and work-related troubles, and chronic pain. I have experience working with issues around addiction, self-harm and disordered eating. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is particularly helpful for long-standing, repetitive problems that resist self-help, good advice and personal efforts to resolve them.
Before becoming a psychotherapist my background was in university teaching and research in the areas of literature, critical theory and philosophy. That work also involved curiosity, deep attention, human concern and some capacity to read the signs in front of me!
