My Approach

As a systemic family therapist I am interested in hearing about people in the context of their relationships and communities. I am a warm and approachable person. I offer a supportive, therapeutic relationship where people can talk about issues important to them and where we can think together about what you would like to be different and what you value and want to keep. I am used to working with families, couples, individuals and teams of professionals and want to hear everybody's views and work with you and your resources in a way that fits for you.
I ask questions to try and help you find new perspectives and understandings. I will regularly review with you what you find useful or not about how we work together.

About Me

I work with groups of people, families, couples and individuals. I am trained as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist, qualifying in 2005 after first training and working as a Social Worker. I worked in NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health for 13 years, and also with couples and families in private practice for several years. I have also worked as a clinical lecturer and tutor. I worked in the NHS Children and Adolescent Gender Services for seven years and then in adult NHS Gender Services for a year. I am a qualified Systemic Supervisor and within the NHS supervise a training clinic, I also supervise individuals privately.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have worked with families navigating a variety of challenges. I work to hear everybody's point of view and consider the different roles and positions we each hold in families. I aim to facilitate conversations where people can hear and be heard by each other and discuss positives and what they would like to change.
I have worked with gender diverse and trans young people, adults and their families and carers for over seven years in the NHS. Gender identity transition - or consideration of this - means changes for the individual and their significant others. I am familiar with the challenges and benefits this can bring and able to discuss these in an open way.
I have worked with young people and adults affected by a range of mental health difficulties. I work with people and involve their important relationships where possible.
We are embedded in relationships - with peers, partners, spouses, parents, children, colleagues, social media connections and more. These are often affected by experiences of relationships from the past. I am interested in talking and thinking about these many layered relationships - how you see them and how you would like them to be. I enjoy talking with people about what differences you might be able to make in your relationships.
I am an experienced individual and group supervisor and have completed my Advanced Diploma in Systemic Supervision training in Birmingham. I supervise an MSc training clinic and several individuals. I also offer multi- disciplinary group and reflective supervision.
