My Approach

I can and I have been working with a wide range of issues over the past thirty-three years.

My background as a social worker and team Manager and now as a psychotherapist , have really given me the springboard and equipped me to be able to work across all socio-economic groups. I can offer empathetic attunement, emotional intelligent and understanding into the indicators of abuse, generational trauma, mental health, domestic violence, drug, and alcohol misuse. I have and will always provide a safe and calming environment that will facilitate growth, help you to make sense of what is happening now and process what had happened previously, we will walk on that Journey together.

I believe that ‘The new bud of the real self cannot exist for very long without the sustenance providing by a welcoming other.’

About Me

Hello, my name is Sandra Oakley-Goodall.

I hold a master’s degree in Integrative Psychotherapy, and I am accredited by the UKCP, my skill and experience have enabled me to use the resources from my training to provide a trusting and calming relational relationship through our contact in relationship.

I have drawn from my skills as a trainee psychotherapist and as a qualified psychotherapist where I am able to use and work from different models, styles and creatively. Therapy can be an opportunity to make sense of what is happening, it can also facilitate growth and healing to take place in terms of trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, childhood abuses and complex family dynamics.

I am a relational psychotherapist; therefore, our sessions will take place within a safe, empathetic, non-judgemental, and trusting environment where you are able to explore and process what has happened for you and where you can be held, seen, and heard.

I recognised the importance of the co-created space and the power of the therapeutic relationship, my role as a Psychotherapist is to ensure that I navigate and walk the therapeutic journey with you by being attuned, offering space, and working with you through your treatment plan.

I am a Christian and have been a woman of faith since my early teens, I will provide therapy to those with and without a faith. I understand the complexity when people of faith grapple with accessing therapy, it is understandable that accessing therapy evokes questions and anxiety for all and I want to reassure you that I will meet you where you are at, on that journey.

If you would like to explore further, you will be given the opportunity to meet with me for thirty minutes either by phone, teams, or face-face for an initial session to discuss your hopes, fears and what you would want from therapy. This consultation is free to you. The sessions are normally weekly and are for fifty minutes and will take place until the end of the agreed contract, this will be led by you based upon the initial meeting.

The session are £60 per weekly session.

I am drawn to generational trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, Borderline disorder, Mental health, and developmental theory in terms of those small child parts and what the younger self did not get and the importance of why love matters. Those wounded parts and the question around what happens for me now, and as a relational psychotherapist. I will ensure that the therapeutic environment provides the trusting space for you to explore those parts that causes so much pain , together we will work with those wounding parts with compassion , empathetic attunement , respect through contact in relationship, ( Erskine 1997) speaks of the growth that can takes place within the therapeutic relationship.

“There is a kind of food, not taken in through the mouth, bits of knowing that nourish love. The body and the human personality form a cup. Every time you meet someone, something is poured in” (Rumi,1991:50)

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

My background ethnicity and faith have given me the experiences and skills to understand the impact of Race/ Culture/ and the impact on self-esteem and a sense of who am I. I am very drawn by cultural identity/ norms and know the importance of ensuring that the identity and cultural needs of all are integrated in all areas of my practice and a recognition of how race shaped our life and make us the people we are. My practice will offer you the space to explore, to make sense of, to process, to be heard and to be held.
Most of my working experiences has seen me working with victims of domestic violence and I have a full understanding of the impact on self esteem, loss of self , mental health , such as becoming anxious or depressed. I have a full understanding that this can lead to poor physical health or having a lowered sense of self worth.
I am currently and have experiences of working with client who have experienced the symptoms of post -traumatic disorder in terms of reliving the traumatic events through flashbacks nightmares and flashbacks, this an area that speaks to me in terms of my practice.
I have extensive experience with working with suicide and this is an area where I have completed additional training to enrich the therapeutic relationship with my clients and practice.
I have a wide knowledge base of working with trauma and the symptoms it often leaves behind, that sense of being overwhelmed and not being able to make sense of what is happening for you, this is an area that is of a special interest to me and an area that Fisher (2017) wrote about and I agree with her when she reported that slower is faster when working with the living Legacy of Trauma.
