If you've found yourself here, I'm imagining you might be feeling a bit lost or anxious. You could have a good idea as to what is going on and feel ready to turn towards it, or you could be in a state of wordless despair, both are very common and extremely normal. There is no 'right' way to be in psychotherapy and I invite you to start just as you are as we consider working together and exploring what might be going on.
Being trained 'integratively' means that I am able to draw on a variety of theories, helping you to gain understanding around processes of thought, feeling and behaviour. As we start to consider how your past might be shaping your present, slowly but surely, your internal landscape will begin to change, making long-lasting alterations in addition to your emotional weather. This doesn't mean that we will be just blaming others for all that they may have done (or not done) but cultivating a curious and compassionate lens to support you in creating a more intentional and desirable future.
Growth is rarely linear but, as the saying goes, '"you never step in the same river twice", each session providing an opportunity to turn towards your experience from the eternal now. A key part of my task will be to support you in the creation of a life with more intention and possibility.
I am a fully qualified and accredited psychotherapist (MA, Dip HIP) and hold a private practice near Devizes as well as in Swindon's Old Town.
For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in the complexities and tensions of the human experience - the longing and, hopefully, the belonging; the love and the hate; the hope as well as the fear - and continually fascinated by our enduring drive to survive.
In my therapy room I create and empathic, unconditional and authentic attitude. I will always endeavour to respond and adapt to the individual sitting in front of me, trying to ensure the best opportunity for growth and understanding.
Disentangling ourselves from our stories can be a complex task and psychotherapy creates an opportunity to be both heard and understood, first with another and then with ourselves. This is soul work.
In addition to being in psychotherapy myself for many years, I have learnt the value of other supportive practices. These include, but are not limited to, walking in nature, journalling, meditation, reading and creative practice. I am not an artist with a capital 'A', I know this as I grew up in a household of 'Artists' and often felt intimidated by their raw talent. However, in the last couple of years I have reclaimed something of my (our) natural birthright.
My reclammation of this early process has been transformational and when I manage to get out of the way of my head I have noticed the process rarely lies. Doodling, intuitive drawing and collage-making have collectively helped me to move closer to my authentic self. I am currently considering continuing professional development in this area as part of my professional evolution.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
