My Integrative practice, values and orientation have developed organically through over 40 years experience in mental health and substance misuse settings and private practice as well as through my training. I draw on a number of approaches including Object Relations and Attachment Theory from the Psychodynamic tradition, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Person Centred and Bodywork from a Humanistic perspective, and am informed by more recent developments in the field of Trauma and Neuroscience. I am more interested in connections than divisions between therapeutic approaches. Fostering and actively working with the Therapeutic Relationship is for me the central integrating principle of therapy.
I am happy to work with people who contact me directly, via referral from their GP or other professional or through a family member. A first session is an opportunity to see how we get on and ensure that we are both comfortable to make an agreement to work together. I regard emotional distress and difficulty as a normal part of life which sometimes needs addressing in a professional context. We are all potentially vulnerable and we all have our limits. Sometimes we get stuck in patterns of being and relating which are unhelpful to us and which we may need to express, understand and begin to change.

My professional experience began in the mid 80s, within Therapeutic Community and then Mental Health Day Centre settings in East London. I went on to organise Day Care programmes for long term psychiatric patients moving out into group homes in Norfolk and subsequently spent four years working as a therapist within an NHS Community Drug Team in Norwich. I have been solely in Private Practice since 1995, both in East Anglia and from 2002 in Swansea. This has incorporated GP surgery counselling, extensive experience with Employee Assistance Programmes and a universty staff counselling service, providing individual and group therapy for Womens Aid, receiving referrals from an Eating Disorders service, working with clients of a Probation Service on Drug Rehabilitation Orders and working with members of the Deaf Community via Interpreter.
My experience has taught me to be flexible and creative in my approach to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds. At the same time I am acutely aware of the commonalities we all share as human beings.
