My Approach

During therapy I will support you to connect with your histories and important relationships in your life to explore how these have influenced present relationships. We use these to build on our strengths as an individual, couple and/or family to tackle past and present life complexities.
My approach is empathic and energetic supporting you to connect both to your thinking and your feeling, whilst connecting to how this is experienced in your bodies to better understand your needs. Allowing an increased sense of regulation, and ability to recognise and enjoy the good.
I am a Systemic and Family psychotherapist and believe that therapy is best practiced in a collaborative way. I have also trained in the Grief Recovery Method, Integrative Psychotherapy, NVR (Non Violent Resistance), and EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy-Family and individual).

About Me

I am a UKCP Registered Systemic and Family Psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience working with individuals, families, couples and organisations.
I enjoy working collaboratively to explore how past influences shape our present to support a future more aligned with what you would like it to be. I am experienced in working with people assisting with, cultural difference and identity, grief including ambiguous loss, racial trauma, community trauma, sexual identity, anxiety, depression, and difficulties faced during significant life transitions: relationship breakdown, leaving home, parenthood & employment changes.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Grief can be experienced multiple ways in our life above and beyond the loss of a loved one, or not so loved one. I create a safe space to discuss the multiple ways in which Grief has impacted life, connecting to the complex and often conflicting feelings that can arise when experiencing grief. I utilise my professional experiences as a systemic and family psychotherapist and grief recovery specialist as well as direct experience supporting those through losses both resent and long ago. Ambiguous loss is often connected to experiences that may not seem tangible or hard to form the words to express what we are feeling. Common experiences of ambiguous loss include, life being different to how you expected a memory of a feeling not a situation that brings current unwanted feelings, losses that others tend not to fully understand therefore the feelings of grief and loss sit with you, a relationship that has since improved without space to fully express past hurt (this list is not extensive)
When we enter a relationship, we are bringing with us expectations about how we want to be treated and how we will treat others. These are influenced by our past intimate relationships, and the relationships we witnessed within our family and communities. Conflict often arises when there is a difference in how couples’ response to a situation differs to the others, when a significant change expected or otherwise happens and when values and beliefs differ. In couples therapy I create a safe and collaborative space for exploration of need, expectations and desires for the future to best support a more harmonious relationship. This supports a better sense of connectedness reducing escalation of future disagreements
Culture is a word with numerous meanings. In the therapy room I support people to explore all aspects of Culture that are impacting their relationships with others and themselves. This may be exploration of difference between themselves and an intimate partner, in the workplace, across generations, and in wider communities. Our individual and collective cultures are created, influenced and nurtured through our familial, personal and community beliefs and values. Connecting to the aspects of our individual culture we hold dear whilst understanding where the base beliefs and values stem from can help us to understand our own as well as others behaviours. Connecting to this can also support in relationships were there are different cultures to create a culture fitting for their experiences together
Family relationships experience various and continued changes which can be difficult to navigate. These difficulties can arise when members are not ready for the change, it happens at a speed incongruent to the expectations, there are new members with different expectations, intergenerationally changes have been experienced with difficulties and the pattern continues in the same or closely related way. In family sessions my aim to allow everyone to feel heard and support change by connecting to your skill sets supporting, enhancing and developing new skills to tackle current difficulties. Using the space to discover how to sustain these changes and minimise future conflict
