I work with people in close relationships, facilitating conversations in a compassionate and respectful way, in order to collaborate with them to overcome the challenges they are facing, or move towards the way they would like to be together. This could be in order to improve relationships, to talk about challenging situations and events they are facing, to support a family member who is experiencing particular difficulties such as mental health challenges, or to enhance family relationships whatever the circumstances.
Systemic psychotherapy acknowledges that people in relationships affect one another, as do the wider systems and contexts in which they live; working together as a 'system' or family can be helpful to address challenges. 'Family' can be defined in many ways and I work with any group of people who care about each other and describe themselves as family. I welcome working with diversity, appreciating people's own definitions of their identities and social, cultural and religious contexts. I aim to support families to move towards their own goals, and tailor my approach to each family's needs.
I work as a Systemic Family Psychotherapist and Counselling Psychologist based in Brighton & Hove. I have over 20 years' experience of working as a qualified psychologist including in senior roles in NHS mental health services. I offer face-to-face Systemic Family Therapy from consulting rooms in Hove. I also offer face-to-face and online Supervision and Consultation to psychologists and psychotherapists.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
