Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Olwen has extensive experience of working with couples in both therapeutic and mediation contexts. She has attended advanced couples training approved by the College of Sex and Relationship Therapists. Communication, Meeting Partner's Needs, Conflict Resolution, Loss of Emotional Connection, Repetition of unhelpful patterns, Trust Issues, Attachment Styles are some of the many areas Olwen covers in Couples Therapy.
Olwen worked as a NHS Highly Specialist Family Therapist for over 15 years during which time she worked with a variety of mental health and emotional issues. She is interested in how families can consider different ways of relating to each other when difficulties lead to unhelpful patterns.
Olwen has extensive experience of working with CAMHS, Safeguarding and Fostering Services. During this time, she dealt with mental and emotional health issues together with contexts of high distress and complexity, There are also other occasions when parents wish to explore issues which are not necessarily of a mental health nature but are causing tensions and stress.
A great deal of Olwen's work involves thinking about relationship issues in various contexts such as with a partner, with family, with children, in a workplace. Olwen is interested in exploring and processing interactions between thoughts, feelings and behaviour within relationships and experiences. Self esteem,self confidence and loss are other areas which are addressed within relationship contexts.
Olwen is interested in exploring vulnerability, confronting change, navigating distress and exploring the variety of conflicting emotions that often surface during and after separation.
