My life experience moulds my unique theoretical approach. I aim to recognise and attune with a client to resonate, integrate, or produce beneficial change. I acknowledge the foundations of a psychodynamic or object relations approach, and attachment theory, whilst believing that the intersubjective relationship between therapist and client is central to relational therapy. I work mostly with the following theories:-
Humanistic - the 'person to person' relationship.
Psychodynamic - the importance of the unconscious and early years.
Body - the physical basis of emotion, experience, growth and change, including what neuroscience and attachment studies teach us.
Transpersonal - the experience beyond our material one.
Existential – exploring the human experience as a whole
Sessions last for 50 minutes and start on the hour. Fees are £90 per session.
Our first session is an assessment, where you tell me about yourself and your reasons for coming. It is also crucially about deciding whether you feel we can work together – do you feel comfortable, might therapy be beneficial to you and if so, in what ways? I offer short-term counselling and long-term, open-ended psychotherapy with individuals and couples.
We will arrange a regular meeting date if you want to continue working with me. It can be overwhelming looking for a therapist. But finding one who is a good fit for you can be an enriching and sometimes life-changing experience.
Hello, I'm Octavia, and I am an integrative psychotherapist. To be integrative means I have been trained in different modalities of therapy. I often work with existential themes of belonging, identity, death and being alive. I like to explore with the client how they relate to others and build on our relationship in therapy to create an honest and sometimes playful space, to encourage the client to explore parts of themselves they may not be able to bring elsewhere. Talking therapy can help to get to the heart of our fears and uncover patterns of behaviour or thinking. I can witness your story and guide you towards a more grounded sense of yourself.
Before training as a therapist, I worked in Television Production for over 25 years.
I am a neurodiverse therapist with both ADHD and ASD diagnosis, I also have first-hand experience of recovery from addictions and bereavement. However, I work across all areas of human life experience. Processing my own behaviours and grief led to my training to help others navigate challenging times to better understand themselves.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
