My Approach

My aim as a psychotherapist is to provide a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space within which we examine together challenging issues that may prevent you from living a more fulfilling life. I offer individual and couple therapy.
When you initially contact me, I will answer any questions you may have about therapy, how I work and the next step.
Then we can book an initial appointment to explore what may bring you to therapy and discuss specific issues in more detail. At the end of the initial meeting, I will offer you feedback about what you have shared with me, and together we can think of possible options of therapeutic support.

During therapy, we can explore past events that may relate to current difficulties. This way, we can identify specific areas, i.e., relationships, work, self-esteem, life goals, where you want to introduce meaningful changes.

I use aspects from various therapeutic models such as Analytic Psychotherapy, Person-Centre Approach and Mentalization-Based Treatment. The aim is to create a therapeutic environment that is tailored to your specific needs.

About Me

Psychotherapy aims to support individuals in exploring life challenges, understanding possible triggers, and developing new ways of coping with tasks that can lead to a more fulfilling life.
My experience expands in over 25 years of working in highly specialised mental health services and private practice.

I specialise in supporting clients with any of the below issues: struggling with everyday life demands, ongoing relationship difficulties in couples, feeling misunderstood and unappreciated, negative and/or obsessive thinking, anger issues, low self-esteem, loneliness, trauma, deliberate self-harming behaviours, suicidal thoughts, personality difficulties, addictive behaviours, overwhelming work challenges, struggling to find purpose in life or have meaningful life goals.

In couple therapy the focus is on exploring and identifying recurring communication patterns that may have a negative effect on their relationship. Themes explored may relate to disconnection, isolation, regular conflicts, lack of intimacy, lack of mutual life goals.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Abuse and resulting trauma can result in long-standings difficulties in interactions with others, self-esteem and ability to function. I work with clients on past abusive experiences and possible current abusive patterns that can trap them in unhealthy relationships and behaviours they may be struggling to get out of.
Addictive behaviour(s) can be a manifestation of difficulties with managing and finding meaning in life. It can also be a way of distracting clients from other issues that would otherwise feel too overwhelming to handle. Therapy can focus on direct work on the addiction through harm minimisation, motivational interviewing, cycle of change, and also explore possible psychological triggers that led to the addictive behaviour(s).
My role as a couple therapist is to support both partners in exploring recurring relationship patterns that may have a negative effect on their communication, intimacy, conflict resolution and life goals. Themes explored in therapy may relate to disconnection, isolation, conflict, lack of intimacy and lack of direction as a couple. The aim is to support both partners find new channels of communication, become more aware of each other's needs, enjoy time together, and develop mutually fulfilling life goals.
Depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, self-punitive thoughts/behaviours, and personality issues are a few of the mental health difficulties that we may experience during our lifetime. I feel it's always important to normalise such experiences and identify them as opportunities to explore aspects of our life, develop a deeper understanding of their meaning and make fulfilling changes.
I have a 15-year long experience in clinical supervision and I am a member in the UKCP supervisor register. My special interest is in substance misuse, Dual Diagnosis, Personality Difficulties, psychoanalytic individual and group work, Mentalisation Based Treatment. I offer a non-judgmental space for psychotherapists and teams to review their clinical practice, share expertise and knowledge and develop a deeper understating of the clients they work with. I also offer safe and confidential Reflective Practice to teams. The key aims in working with teams is to help them develop a reflective space where they can explore and critically evaluate their existing practices, identify issues that make work stressful, think about roles and organisational tasks, and work through factors that influence team cohesion.
