My Approach

I am interested in the relationships and events that shape people. We want to know why we are the way we are, and why we feel the way we do. A relational/developmental approach opens the work up for clients to explore their histories and grow in their understanding of who they are. I am now able to offer an IFS approach to enable us to work with the different parts of ourselves.

About Me

I have a background in working with families, young people from the age of 13 and victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse. I have my own practice where I work with individuals and couples short and long term on a range of issues that affect the majority of us at some time in our lives: Issues like anxiety, stress, depression, self-harm, loneliness and loss. I have undergone my own personal work with therapists over the years, so I know firsthand about the courage it can take to face the challenges of this process. I feel it is important for me, as a therapist, to understand what it is I ask people to do when they come into therapy with me. People choose to see a counsellor or psychotherapist when they want to explore something that has been causing them difficulty in their life and, or, in their relationships; something that needs understanding.  Often people want to make important changes in their lives and relationships and find it helpful to gain the support of some counselling or therapy. As a Black woman of mixed heritage my journey around identity places in a strong position to support others with their own journey.

So, what is counselling or therapy? It happens between two or more people, in a confidential and safe space, solely for the purpose of supporting you. For people who are very private, or scared, this can seem like a daunting prospect. People do not realise what courage it takes to come and begin sharing things that have been deeply felt or held. Whilst some people come in crisis, feeling they have run out of solutions on their own, others come out of a curiosity in their self. It is work that can last for a while, but at other times, a few sessions.

I have been practising for some years now, and am also a qualified clinical supervisor. I look forward to being able to support people's development in another way. And that, after all, is why I chose this profession.

As an Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist I have experience of working with individuals around many of life's difficulties:

Grief and loss
Identity
Depression
Anxiety, including generalised anxiety disorder
Trauma and abuse, including domestic violence and abuse
Relationship issues, (whether romantic, familial or professional)
Isolation and loneliness
This is just a brief list of some of the reasons why people choose to come and see me.  If you would like to discuss anything that you have read here please contact me with a call or email to arrange an appointment

I work respectfully, sensitively and confidentially. Please visit my website for information about my work.
