My Approach

Why Systemic Psychotherapy?

Systemic psychotherapy helps us to think about what might be impacting our relationships, that we want to be different. Our experiences, including the ideas and values we have (which may have been learnt from our families) and our cultures influence how we think about the world and then act with other people.

Our way of experiencing the world may also lead to individual dilemmas that we might want help to think about. We might want to communicate differently with someone who is important to us.

By thinking together about what we bring to relationships with others and what we would like to experience in those moments, systemic therapy can help us have the relationships we want with those who matter most to us.

Working Together

We will have an initial conversation about what has led to you making contact with me, think together about what your hopes for therapy are, and what might be useful to you. We would then think about how and whether I’m the right kind of family and couple's therapist for you.

I would work with your family, your couple or you individually, to help you think about your strengths and difficulties, your ways of being and your emotions safely. We would build on your strengths and, ways to appreciate each other’s experiences and difficulties, to create the changes you all want in your family life. Systemic psychotherapy has different models to draw from so together, we can find the best way for you to resolve your dilemma and develop new skills to approach challenges in the future.

About Me

I am a qualified systemic psychotherapist and have worked with a range of dilemmas affecting individuals, couples and families for over 16 years.

Inspired by my early work as a residential children's home manager, I really believe in supporting families to develop skills so they can stay and grow together wherever possible.

I have a keen interest in practicing and promoting equality and hope to work with you to achieve your hopes from therapy.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Working in a children’s services setting, I have a lot of experience of working with childhood abuse and trauma and how this influences decisions we make at other points in our lives. I’m passionate about supporting an understanding of this to stop the past negatively impacting current experiences.
I’ve worked with many families where domestic abuse has featured and developed and delivered training in this area. My work has included supporting repair in couple relationships, as well as working with survivors who have sought support after fleeing violence and in managing the developed child-parent relationship.
I’ve worked extensively with families, specialising in mediation and supporting parent – child, couple and sibling relationships within families where they’ve struggled to remain living happily together. This often involves focusing on communication and thinking about how we are with those who are important to us.
School Attendance: I have a lot of experience in working with young people who have struggled with school attendance and achievement, supporting students and their families to build relationships with key staff and advocate for what they need to be able to do well.
