My therapeutic approach is integrative, which means I draw on a range of theories to best support each young person. When children or adolescents are struggling, I believe that building a therapeutic relationship is the first step to providing the foundation from which growth can happen and distress can be eased. I offer a safe, containing and empathic space where young people can explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences.
Creative arts can play an important role in this process. I use materials such as pens, paints, clay, sand tray work, toys and stories to help young people express and make sense of what they are experiencing. For some, these methods enable communication without relying solely on words; for others, talking therapy may feel more comfortable. I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each young person.
