I have a strong need to make sense of my own and others' experience and this permeates my practice. I try very hard to be genuine and honest. I am told I am kind and reliable and that I have a sense of humour.
I trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist at the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling. The integration is of humanistic approaches and a development of psychoanalysis (inter-subjectivity). The humanistic approach focuses on being accepting, understanding and real and thereby creating a space, a relationship which allows someone to flourish. Psychoanalysis aims to increase insight and awareness of how the patterns of childhood are played out in the present. I am also strongly influenced by the existential tradition with it's emphasis on personal responsibility and the profound questions of human existence.
I see myself as an independent thinker but the practical aspects of my work are very traditional - regular, weekly, 50 minute sessions at the same time/place.
I am a fully qualified Integrative Psychotherapist with over 25 year experience in the field. I first became interested in psychotherapy as I tried to sort myself out in my late twenties. I found my first therapy life changing in subtle, yet profound, ways. I became fascinated and read widely in the field from Freud and Bowlby to cheesy self help books. I decided to train and eventually set up in private practice. A decision I have never regretted. See my website www.psychotherapyincardiff.com for more biographical details.
