I'm trained in a range of modalities, so I tailor my approach to suit your needs. I'm informed by humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural, transpersonal, existential, developmental and body-oriented theories. Monitoring our embodied states is particularly important, since emotions are physiological events, created, felt and regulated through the body.
I'm a relational therapist, which means an exploration of our relationship will likely be part of our work. How you and I relate may mirror how you relate to other people in your life. This can be a significant area of enquiry. Relational work also means that I see us as two human beings in the room, not as one expert and one 'patient.' I intend to be honest, open and curious when I reflect with you. If I get it wrong, I intend to be honest about that too, and see how we can learn and grow from it, as often this situation presents an opportunity for more intimacy between us. As a wise friend once said to me, I've learnt so much from my mistakes that I plan on making some more!
Authentic relationships enrich my life and my practice. Genuine empathy, warmth and humour allow us to make soul connections. I hope to combine humility, wisdom and humanity. I’ve experienced in my own personal therapy the power of the unique relational space therapy offers. I’ve faced my own life challenges, and I've found compassion, care and creativity from my therapists. I aim to provide the same.
I believe we all have the capacity for transformation, and that this is a gift we are offered throughout our lives. All we need to do is become able to receive it. We're often stronger than we realise and have more than we know. We have riches that include our bodies, our breath, and the sky above us. All we need to do is look inside, to find our authentic selves, and look up, to see that we're part of something bigger than us.
I don't take the 'blank screen' approach, meaning I don't stare at you in silence. If I don't share my thoughts with you, the therapy is only taking place in my head. I provide a non-judgemental and loving space, where I value you for the unique individual you are.
Often the word ‘therapy’ is used whether you're seeking counselling or psychotherapy. Counselling might initially address a current or specific concern, such as a work or relationship difficulty. The process is still one of careful listening and dialogue. Often, a current concern will have links with past experience. Psychotherapy involves meeting once a week or more often, long-term or in an open-ended way. It explores the rich tapestry of your life from childhood onwards, and looks deeply within to uncover unconscious patterns and conflicts. This can be an enlightening and challenging journey, introducing a range of new perspectives and possibilities, and interrogating some of your assumption, beliefs and behaviours.
Initial Meetings and Fees:
I offer a free 15-minute telephone/Zoom consultation, and an initial meeting at a one-off fee of £60 for individuals, and £70 for couples.
Here we’d explore, with your permission, what’s brought you to therapy, what you hope for, and addresses any questions you may have for me about the therapy I provide. There’s no obligation attached to a call or a first meeting. Either is a chance to see if we’re suited to work together.
Counselling and psychotherapy for individuals start from £90 per session, usually held weekly on the same day and at the same time. Couples start from £120 per session, at intervals to be mutually agreed.
I accept AXA Health Insurance.
I’m a highly experienced therapist, having completed my Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling, and then my MA/Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, at one of the leading Integrative therapy training institutions in the UK and Europe. I work as a therapist, counsellor and supervisor in private practice from Leytonstone E11 in person or online via Zoom.
I’ve volunteered at the East London Mental Health Service (ELMS, previously MIND), an organisation offering short-term counselling to the local community, as part of my commitment to inclusion, meaning I work with and welcome clients from diverse backgrounds. I’m committed to developing my personal and professional integration through reflective practice, supervision and Continual Professional Development (CPD).
My first MA was in English Language and Literature at Oxford University. I previously worked in the fields of journalism, art and creative writing.
