I emphasise choice in my work , I offer 1 free assessment hour to see if if the client and myself feel its appropriate to work with each other. I have been in practice for over 22 years and I am always humbled by the courage people who enter into working with a therapist have . I am equally convinced that talking therapies can be a life changer and a life saver for some people . However it has to be the right person, if we both feel there is a chance of rapport that it will be a "good fit" then the work with commitment by both therapist and client can work. . I try to keep my work and manner of speaking has uncomplicated as possible. .
I have been in practice has a Counsellor since 1998 , I was working has a Police Officer and more specifically has a relief Coroners Officer, when my interest was aroused by working with bereaved families . This with the support of my wife led me to qualify has a Counsellor in 2000 and Psychotherapist in 2013 , my 30 years service with the Police in North Yorkshire being a member of the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team (CISD) and working with the local Hospice Bereavement Support service from 198 to 2017. Has led to a lot of work on bereavement . Trauma , PTSD, , substance abuse , depression, anger and anxiety etc. I currently work with adults both online and via telephone with Armed Forces personnel and Emergency service personnel from all over the UK.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
