I work with people in dialogue - supporting them to talk with each other about the concerns and experiences that have been affecting them. This is called dialogical therapy and it is one of the main systemic approaches for individuals and people who want to come to therapy with other people connected or in relationship with eachother. Dialogical therapy involves the therapist working with people who come to therapy, in a joint exploration of the issues they face. This may need a focus on what happens now, and the patterns that you have found yourselves in, or it may need to be about past events and experiences which may need to be reconsidered now from a new perspective. It is through dialogue, and the listening and speaking between people that this involves, that new perspectives may become available.
As therapist I can contribute to this process drawing on my own knowledge and sometimes my own experiences. My contributions will be offered where they may be helpful to you. This may be sharing ideas from practice or research. It could also be or challenging taken for granted ideas that unhelpfully influence our lives, oppress or marginalise - and it is for you to take up those which are helpful. Change happens through finding new persepectives from the conversation which can then influence relationships and then developing positive change into difference in your lives and relationships.
