My Approach

Hello, and welcome to my profile.

You may be at a crossroads in life, struggling with anxiety/stress or depression. You may be looking to change something, find clarity, or find relief from the pain. Or you may simply want to be and feel heard.

What might working together look like?

We will work together to build trust in a safe space, whether online or face to face. You will be able to tell your story at your own pace, and I will be alongside you, listening.

At times, I might ask questions to clarify what you think or how you feel about things. At times, I may offer my thoughts about what may be going on - and you will be able to tell me whether that feels true or we need to think a little more.

Talking through things together without judgement (yours or mine) helps clarify why you feel how you feel and what might help you feel better. Things begin to make sense and patterns of behaviour that don’t help you can be understood and let go of.

A freer, happier you can emerge.

Where do we begin?

If I sound like the kind of therapist you would feel comfortable working with, please book a free 15 minutes introductory call or email me for an initial consultation session during which we can explore what working together might look like. This will also be an opportunity to address any queries or concerns you may have at this stage.

Should we agree to proceed, we will meet via Zoom or at my office for weekly 50 min sessions, at a time that will be kept constant throughout our journey together.

About Me

I am a fully qualified and accredited psychodynamic therapist (MSt University of Oxford) and psychologist (BSc). With over 17 years experience working in training and development, some years ago I decided to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a psychotherapist.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Psychodynamic Practice, University of Oxford

I am deeply committed to maintaining up to date with the latest research and skillset in the psychology and psychotherapy world, including links with the fields of neuroscience, neuropsychology and transgenerational trauma, regularly attending international conferences and workshops.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Anxiety can feel paralysing, like a confusing, diffuse veil blocking our thinking and robbing us of mental peace and sometimes the ability to pursue our dreams or objectives. In psychodynamic therapy, we gently unfold the root causes of anxiety, through paying attention to that which lies underneath this veil. Slowly, clarity and hope can emerge.
Depression shuts down our capacity to engage with life fully, when doing so seems or feels difficult or overwhelming. As with anxiety, we work by gently peeling off the layers that lie underneath the depression. By making sense of what remains unhealed and safely exploring long-buried feelings, we slowly allow our aliveness to come back to everyday life.
I have a special interest in chronic pain and medically unexplained symptoms. I have completed a research project around illness in the mind-body system at the University of Oxford and am an advocate for holding both mind and body in the therapeutic space. The body often tries to communicate that which the mind may be (temporarily) unable to - in the room, we honour the voice of the body alongside that of the mind, which may at times come out as physical pain, tension, or discomfort.
Sexuality is often enveloped in a shroud of shame and guilt, due to our upbringing as well as broader societal issues, culture and prejudice. this makes it challenging to truly connect with our bodies, love and desire. Psychodynamic therapy can offer a unique space to explore blockages and find ways to unshame our bodies and sexuality.
Trauma lives in our minds and bodies, often in unknown or mysterious ways. Reactions, thoughts or feelings can surprise us or feel disproportionate to the here and now - but they will always make sense. With patience, respect and curiosity, we attend to wounds that may lie beneath the surface, gently exploring moments and feelings that we may have forgotten or not had the chance to give the safe space they deserve.
