My Approach

I trained in group and one-to-one psychodrama psychotherapy. Moreno, the father of psychodrama, focused on the roles people play, which develop from birth in response to their environment. I draw on role theory to understand the challenges people face in their interactions with themselves and those around them. I work with talking therapy initially and introduce more active methods later. One technique that works well for most people is using small-world objects. I encourage you to set up a current problem using small figures to represent people and feelings. This helps you empathize with others' emotions and reflect on any difficult role dynamics. Seeing the problem in a concrete way assists you to mentally travel back to the time when these unhelpful feelings and beliefs emerged and get in touch with more positive messages about yourself and the world around you. My clients enjoy creating this unique snapshot of their universe and describe feeling absorbed and peaceful whilst working in this way. It also integrates right and left brain function as the right brain creates and the left brain makes sense of the material. This is an example of how we might work together but the beauty of action methodology is how adaptable it is. My main motivation is to meet you as fully as possible within the therapy space and explore ways of working together that will help your best and happiest self to emerge.

About Me

I trained as a psychodrama psychotherapist alongside my other role as a teacher of Drama and graduated in 2022. During my lengthy training I worked in NHS settings, in the voluntary sector and latterly in private practice which I am currently pursuing. My training was extended because of the inability to work face to face with groups during the Covid pandemic but this facilitated a period of working online which has been invaluable in my private practice, some of which is conducted on Zoom.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I suffered depression as a teenager and briefly following the traumatic birth of my second child. I believe this gives me an insight into treatment pathways. I work with the role of depression within clients' lives to alleviate symptoms and encourage them to counter depressive thoughts.
I worked in an NHS eating disorders day unit whilst training and also have personal experience of the impact anorexia has on families. I use the skills-based approach to caring for someone with an eating disorder that is employed by NHS trusts.
