As a Humanistic psychotherapist I practice with the belief that each person is unique, that we strive to belong, to connect with others, to feel valued, to be seen and to be heard and that we have self-responsibility as well as responsibility towards others. I work from the understanding that wellness, healing and personal growth is a natural tendency within us and to move towards this growth it is important to develop an environment which is experienced as safe in order to explore, and at times challenge, long held beliefs, feelings and behaviours.
I have a relational approach to therapy which means I value the therapeutic relationship and the opportunity this provides for the development of an authentic and mutual connection from which we can gain an insight into your patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour.
We would work collaboratively and agree the focus of the therapy whether that be particular issues, or adopting an exploratory approach if you feel uncertain where to start. We would explore your experiences and rather than give advice I see my role as supporting you, which at times may mean challenging you, as you develop self-awareness enabling you to see things more clearly, and from a different perspective and to make change possible.
It is from this understanding that I provide a non-judgmental environment and welcome clients to explore their experiences at their pace.
