My Approach

I can offer highly specialist assessments, consultations and treatment/interventions that help those I am working with to begin to make sense of difficult experiences that may have happened in the past and how the survival strategies they developed to help survive in a dangerous environment or in response to trauma were brilliantly effective then, but may be getting in the way of living the life they really want to, having the relationships they would most like to have or accessing education/work that feels meaningful.

- working with parents (adopted/step/grandparents/foster carers) who are struggling to find ways to connect, challenge or repair relationships with their children at any stage of life. I have additional training in trauma, attachment-based family therapy (ABFT) and Non-violent Resistance (NVR) and use these lenses in much of the work I do.

- working with couples who are struggling with their relationship in any aspect; this includes intimacy and sexual relationship, past traumas and how these can pop up and interfere with relationship dynamics, considering children and supporting them through separation and divorce, differences in parenting styles and approaches.

- working with individuals or families around whatever they feel the issues are that brought them to seek therapeutic support in a creative way using evidence informed approaches from therapy, neuroscience and my own experiences as a therapist over the past 15 years.

I also work closely with companies/individuals in professional contexts, offering organisational consultancy and am an accredited systemic supervisor who has taken a number of trainees to qualification, as well as offering supervision of private practice.

About Me

I an experienced Consultant Systemic Psychotherapist with over 15 years of clinical experience working in a variety of settings including NHS community mental health services, mental health charities and inpatient units.

I currently work for NHS CAMHS three days a week as the Clinical Lead and Consultant Systemic Psychotherapist for the Trauma Pathway/Service and two day a week doing teaching, consultation, supervision and therapy online or in person in my clinic room in Oxford.

Whilst I am able to work with a broad range of presenting difficulties I specialise in working with Trauma/Complex Trauma and Attachment and how they impact throughout different stages of life, and impact across relationships including parent or carer and child relationships, couple/intimate partner relationships and broader family systems or even work contexts.

As some of mixed heritage (White British - Romani), I prioritise working in anti-racist, anti-oppressive way, and always welcome people who need a space to talk about experiences of discrimination or prejudice. I am committed to my own learning about privilege and continual developing my practice in this area.

I speak Spanish fluently as well as English and am always happy to consider working with interpreters for other languages. I am also committed to making adjustments to my clinic space or way of working to accommodate any physical disabilities, neurodiversity or learning needs.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I am a specialist in working with families at any stage of the adoption process, from assessment, matching, initial building of a new family relationships, through to post adoption support and therapeutic work with children or parents around specific areas of challenge that may arise. I have worked closely with Adoption West for a number of years but am open to working with other agencies also if required.
I have a special interest in working with carers and parents when they find themselves in crisis situations, helping to find ways forward and to reconnect with the young people they care for, even when they are showing very hard to manage or risky behaviours to themselves and others
I have offered supervision to systemic practitioners at a range of levels, through from intermediate or IAPT training to MSC qualifying. I also supervise qualified therapists within the NHS and privately, using a social justice, social constructionist approach with a particular interest in power relationships, action techniques and narrative approaches.
I am trained to offer AIM 3 assessments and have worked systemically with many families where this is one of the difficulties they are living with.
All the work I do is trauma informed and I have worked in specialist services that support people who have experienced abuse of different forms and whose behaviours may include things such as inappropriate sexualised behaviours, toiletting issues, dissociation, flashbacks, sensory difficulties, self harming or suicidality, aggression or violence towards others, difficulties in education/employment,
