The Talking Cure.................
Psychotherapy, Counselling, Homeopathy
It's good to talk! No problem, physical or emotional, too big or too small.
The work I do involves helping my clients to discover their potential, understand what it is that holds them back from realising it, and move forward into living the life they want to live. I use a range of methods depending on what the person wants to address.
I can use counselling on its own, or combine this with homeopathic remedies where appropriate. If my clients need deeper work on spiritual issues, - for example, what is life about?, what is the meaning of life? etc - I can offer psychotherapy.
Whether using counselling, homeopathic or psychotherapy skills, I work from a psychospiritual perspective known as Psychosynthesis. Psychosynthesis is interesting, creative, exciting, revealing, rewarding (and challenging!). The essence of Psychosynthesis work is that everyone has a 'soul' element, a 'deeper self' element, and this can be helped to emerge by using particular techniques.
This is known as 'bifocal vision', which helps clients make sense of all the levels of themselves - the personal (personality); the transpersonal (The "more than"); the influence of the past on the present; and the potential for the future. We look at what is conscious and what is unconscious:
As well as discussing the current problems, I use various creative techniques - I help clients to use visualisations, and art work, to analyse dreams, to investigate subpersonalities (the various parts of ourselves), and understand the connections between childhood experiences and the present day.
Before doing further training in psychotherapy, counselling and homeopathy, I worked for 26 years as a Lecturer and Senior Manager in Higher Education, where I was an external examiner; a vice principal of two colleges (one in Japan): and a teacher, trainer and supervisor of students in clinical practice. I've always been interested in spirituality and have run 'Archetypal workshops' in Manchester and London.
Currently work with the AQA ( National Examining Board, marking counselling students' work and setting examination standards . I also train counsellors at the University of Derby in Buxton.
I charge £65 for the first diagnostic assessment session, and £40 per subsequent sessions. If cost is a genuine problem, I treat a certain proportion of concessionary rate clients. As to the duration of sessions, we can discuss what you need - counselling, homeopathy or psychotherapy.
