Existentially orientated, relational Integrative Psychotherapy
I practice as an existential, relational Integrative Psychotherapist and Supervisor. Based in York, North Yorkshire (UK), I offer psychotherapy to individuals. (Please note that, as I am moving towards semi-retirement, I am no longer accepting new clients). As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I believe that a person’s early life experience influences who we become and there is a tendency to repeat ways of relating to others. When we grow into adults we find ways of coping which offer some security because they are familiar. However, we can get ‘stuck’ in old ways of being in life which no longer seem to work. Therapy can help us find new ways to avoid repeating problematic life patterns as it helps us become more aware of our emotional issues and our patterns of relating to others. My role as a therapist is to offer understanding, empathetic support and sensitive challenge as part of the all important therapeutic relationship.
We would start therapy by exploring the difficulties you are currently facing and we consider what you would like to change. We would then work together to discover new, more satisfying, ways for you to be in your life. I believe that with understanding, empathy and sensitive challenge people are able to make changes in their lives and relationships. My approach is always tailored to your needs as an individual. I also place a lot of faith in the healing power of a caring, supportive therapeutic relationship.
NB As part of my wider continuing professional development, I regularly undertake courses, do research and attend conferences. I have completed two certificated courses to do with working online and have completed the requirements for the UKCP Covid-19 Online Working Guidance.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
