My Approach

Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on unconscious patterns of our inner world. This includes talking about our past and present relationships, unresolved issues and conflicts that unbeknown to us might be dominating our present. Therapy helps us to gradually identify these issues and patterns and to start developing the capacity to understand and respond to them in a way that is lifegiving.

Therapy is somewhere you can come to talk, confidentially, about whatever it is that affects you. It'a a safe space for you to be heard, a space where you can begin to understand yourself and the world around you, where words can be found to make sense of confusing feelings and experiences.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Most of us feel anxious at times, especially when faced with stressful events or changes that could have a big impact on our life. However, anxiety can become a mental health problem if it starts affecting our ability to live and enjoy our life. Among other things you may • Feel tense or unable to relax • Feel like you can't stop worrying and fear the worst • Worry that you're losing touch with reality • Feel disconnected from your mind or body • Experience panic attacks. Therapy provides a safe space to explore those feelings and experiences, allows a space for new perspectives and understanding, allows for relief.
You may be struggling with • A sense of purposelessness and /or confusion • Feeling a bit lost and alone • Feeling stuck, feeling stuck in repeating patterns without an apparent way out • Feeling you have lost interest in life. Therapy provides a space where you can confidentially talk about your feelings and experiences without a fear of being judged as care and respect are at the core of our work together.
Therapy facilitates growth, it helps gaining insight into the patterns of our behaviour, our thinking, and how we relate to ourselves and others. Sometimes we may feel conflicted or unsure of who we are and what we want. In therapy we can explore why we feel the way we do, we can reflect on those feelings – what they might be communicating, how they have been affecting our relationships and our own sense of being.
To live our life in full we need to feel secure, secure within ourselves, secure in our home or out in the world. We need to feel that we can choose our unique path free from discrimination, prejudice, aggression, and abuse. However, our realities are often marked by traumatic experiences. We might have faced frightening or distressing events that were difficult to cope with or were out of our control. It could have been one incident, or an ongoing event that happens over a long period of time. It can happen at any age and it can affect us long after the event has happened. During or afterwards you may • Feel you have lost a sense of who you are • Feel angry, confused, restless, or helpless • Feel shame and guilt • Have difficulty feeling any strong emotions • Have suicidal feelings • Have flashbacks • Experience panic attacks. Therapy is a secure space to explore painful experiences and their affects, and to find new ways of being.
