About Me

I have 30 Year’s working in Mental Health to offer you, a well rounded, wise experience of human understanding and personal development.
I spent 18 years working as a Mental Health Nurse in the NHS with Adults, Families and Young People.
I am a qualified Counsellor and a United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) registered Psychotherapist for Adults, Children and Young People and have run a successful private psychotherapy practice since 1995.

There is so much information written about different types of therapy and how people can benefit, before I list my experience and professional qualifications, I want to recognise how difficult it is to pick a Therapist. I always suggest that you arrange to see me for a one off appointment, I believe what really makes the difference to how you feel, is if you are comfortable and happy with me and what I offer in the therapeutic relationship.
\n
Also, as someone looking for therapy, I remember as a client I didn’t really know what I wanted to change, or what would help me. I offer the one off assessment appointment, so together we can begin to work out, what you are unhappy with, what changes, you want to make and whether I can help you do that.

EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing – is still a relatively new therapy which, does require some explanation.
Built on a clear understanding of how the brain and the body experience and process trauma and distress, EMDR is now undoubtedly one of the most successful, effective, ways we know of tackling the aftermath of trauma.
When I describe Trauma, people often think of the “Big T” traumas such as road accidents, natural disasters, violence, or life-threatening experiences. EMDR also successfully treats the “little t” traumas: non-life-threatening injuries, emotional abuse, death of a pet, bullying or harassment, and loss of significant relationships.
For many of us, we accumulate these ‘little t’ traumas in childhood and this maybe some of the underlying reasons you are currently seeking therapy.
I have experienced EMDR as a therapist and also as a client with inspiring and sometimes astonishing results, both personally and professionally.
It’s not easy to say how many sessions are required, sometimes a one off trauma such as a car accident or an assault, good work can often be done in just three or four sessions and people often feel better very quickly.
If the trauma sits deeper, perhaps involving childhood experiences of neglect, domestic violence, or abuse the work may take longer, as we build up the therapeutic relationship and I support you to face these painful experiences.

I currently supervise Trainee and Qualified Counsellors, Therapists, Religious Leaders and Coaches and am passionate about offering regular professional supervision in a protected and disciplined space. In 2015 I gained a MSc in Professional Supervision at Middlesex University, this helped me develop a theoretical understanding to my many years of supervisory practice.

I work with individuals, groups, families and teenagers online and I work with individuals in person in my office in NG24.
I work both short term and long term depending on your needs.
