My Approach

I am currently bringing together a weekly in-person psychotherapy group in Falmouth. This is an opportunity to work in a small group to find ways of speaking about things that may have been difficult to express, and to explore different ways of relating to others. This kind of group is particularly helpful for people who are feeling isolated or who want to find ways of improving their relationships with others.

I have training and experience in clinical psychology, systemic family therapy and group analysis, so I have a number of different psychological models to draw on to find the best fit for you. Initially we will meet individually think together about what you hope for from the therapy. Once we agree to do some work together, we will arrange a regular weekly 50 minute session. We will check back in as we go to see whether the therapy is giving you what you need. The length of time we work together will be decided between us and will depend upon your needs and circumstances.

If you are interested in joining a psychotherapy group, we can discuss this together. The psychotherapy groups I hold are usually around 4-7 people, and meet once a week at the same time.

About Me

I have worked in the NHS and the third sector since 2002. I combine a background in Clinical Psychology with my Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy training. This has given me experience of working therapeutically with people from a wide range of backgrounds. I value the conversations I have with people about the things that matter most to them. As well as therapy work, in recent years I have also held groups for health care professionals who are interested in exploring the impact of this ‘caring’ work upon themselves.

I meet people face to face in therapy rooms in Redruth and Penzance (Cornwall) as well as online.

I am registered with UKCP, qualified member of GASW, and Registered Practitioner Psychologist with HCPC.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

The experience of abuse is likely to have an impact on how you feel about yourself and your self confidence. This can also have a significant impact on how you find yourself in your relationships. In therapy, we can find ways of starting to think about and process these experiences.
The experience of anxiety can have a significant impact on your life, limiting creativity and making it difficult to make decisions or take risks. Finding a way of speaking about the things that make you anxious in a safe space can be an important part of therapy.
The experience of losing someone significant in your life can have a big impact. It can feel difficult to know how to remember a person and also take care of yourself. I believe that those we have lost will continue to have a place in our lives, and that although relationships change when someone is no longer in your life, there may be ways of continuing to value the relationship with the person you have lost.
I work in a way that makes space for thinking about the roles you take up in your family and friendship groups, and to notice how this may create difficulties for you in new relationships. A psychotherapy group can be a good place to explore these experiences, or we can also work individually.
