As a UKCP registered Senior Family and Systemic Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor I have experience of supporting individuals, children and their families with mental health and relationship difficulties.

Having worked in Mental Health Services and Education since 2005 I recognise the importance of working collaboratively and understanding the wider context of influence. The beliefs we hold and language we use has a profound influence on our experience of relationships and community. This in turn can shape our perception of situations and our approach when responding to difficulties. Problems are rarely experienced alone and often shared with relatives, friends and colleagues. Individuals report difficulties with others and so meeting with someone outside the system provides an opportunity to have all ideas understood, whilst learning about new perspectives and developing awareness of problematic patterns that can result in feeling stuck.

Systemic Psychotherapy values the importance to cultivating a climate of compassion and curiosity where all views, however different, can be included. This way of working respectfully acknowledges the impact of difference with regards to ethnicity, gender and spiritual beliefs to name just a few. It is often in the territory between people’s ideas and their positions where difference can be experienced, and the possibility of change can occur. It is for this reason that I encourage individuals to attend with family members and significant others where possible.
