Humanistic
Person-Centred
Hi, my name is Katie and I run a humanistic/person-centred private practice in Nottingham. Qualified to MSc level and U.K.C.P accredited, my therapy rooms are based in the city centre and Carlton (NG4)
But why would you want therapy? Do you need it? How could it help?
It isn’t uncommon to ask these kinds of questions of yourself when thinking about having some sort of counselling or therapy, so here is my take on it.
Change is the biggest reason people access therapy. In someway, people want to change something about themselves. Sometimes we feel stuck where we are, unable to go on, maybe feeling as though the past is preventing us from moving forward, creating a breakdown in our relationships with others and our self.
Therapy is like a pause button. Its 50 minutes per week that is just for you. You have someone’s undivided attention, where you are listened to and you are heard. In today’s world, it's easy to feel ignored or by-passed, stressed, anxious, depressed, overwhelmed or sad. Thing is, the longer we leave these negative feelings, the harder they are to hide.
As we get older, we get better at dealing with these feelings. We create strategies to cope, some healthy, like exercising and meditation or maybe some that aren’t so good for us, like ignoring or suppressing the feeling, hoping it will just go away. Problem is, it doesn’t always work that way and instead, we start feeling worse, maybe getting angry a lot or feeling you can’t go on.
That’s where a pause button comes in handy.
Therapy gives you the opportunity to explore whats going on. To provide that space to fully recognise and understand not only, what you are going through, but where to go from here. Once a week, you are able to be yourself, without fear of blame or judgement. Facing yourself in a safe environment can be empowering, improve relationships, esteem and confidence amongst other things. This personal growth will be celebrated and encouraged throughout the whole process...
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
