I work with adult individuals and couples, both short and long term - face to face and online. I qualified as an Integrative Psychotherapist in 2007 but have since developed my practice to draw upon CBT and mindful-compassion ideas, as I believe they can be very effective tools for change. I combine these with the deeper psychological work that involves looking at formative relationships we make as we grow up.
I have extensive experience of working with depression and anxiety, and with those who have experienced pregnancy loss or a struggle with their fertility. My first book - The Brink of Being - talking about miscarriage - was published by Virago Press in the UK and Penguin in the USA. It has also been published in Taiwan and Poland and was awarded Popular Medicine Book of the Year 2021 by the British Medical Association. My second book, Everyone's A Critic, explores self-criticism (also for Virago Press). It was published in Romania, and Poland, and will be published in China and the Middle East.
I also offer supervision to therapists from many modalities, train individuals and organisations about pregnancy loss and examine communication skills for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
(I have completed the UKCP Covid-19 Online Working Guidance).
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
