My Approach

I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist offering:
– Individual psychotherapy
– Couples therapy
– Clinical supervision (group and individual)-Training
– Mediation Services
– Expert witness services

I am also available to offer training supervision and training therapy for trainee psychotherapists.
I have over 35 years of experience in Mental Health and Psychotherapy.
I have completed a full professional training to Masters Level in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, which is approved by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, (UKCP). I have a PG Cert in Clinical Supervision from University of Derby.

In addition to my Registration as Psychotherapist with the UKCP, I am a Registered Individual Member with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I work within the ethical framework and codes of practice of the UKCP and BACP

I am committed to my on-going personal development and attend relevant conferences, trainings and workshops to enhance my practice.

About Me

Jo Burns Psychotherapy Services offers an independent specialist service for Derby, Derbyshire and the Midlands. I left the NHS in 2012 having worked with them since 1982 and have been in Private Practice since 1993.
I aim to provide a welcoming, professional and integrated service with the focus being on individual therapeutic need and if appropriate, the needs of organisations.
My personal motivation is to provide an individual and personal therapeutic intervention specifically to meet my clients’ specifications.
I offer both brief and longer term therapy dependant on the individual.
I have special interest in Couples Therapy, pregnancy related support and postnatal issues.

I will try to ensure that clients are not waiting a long time for an initial appointment and try to offer appointments as soon as possible. Flexible appointment times are available to try and meet your needs. If, having met and explored the issues, this form of therapy is not appropriate I will tell you and will explore alternative options to meet your particular requirements.
