About Me

My name is Dr. John Plowman. I am a hypnotherapist based in South Wales with a private practice in Newport, Gwent. I help people deal with many different problems through hypnotherapy, psychotherapy and counselling.

With over 30 years of experience of hypnotherapy I have successfully treated many people with a variety of problems using hypnosis. I can provide solution focused therapy for self development and overcoming the many challenges that may be faced in life. I help people improve their relationships or successfully achieve their goals. I treat a lot people with anxiety and depression and can also help you handle shyness.

I am one of the leading specialists in the field of Past Life Regression (PLR) and have lectured to international congresses on PLR.

In addition to my clinic in Newport, I have written books on both relationships and hypnotherapy which are available on request. Please visit www.drjplowman.co.uk to find out how hypnotherapy, psychotherapy or counselling could help you. If you wish to book a session or have any questions then please contact me.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Up to a point anxiety can be a motivator. However ,when it is out of control and cn even lead to panic it is dysfunctional. The Morito Method of dealing with anxiety is a good summary of my approach which is to accept it and use it as a motivator. The idea is to do well and that is the positive aspect of anxiety, The desire to be perfect can lead to a great deal of anxiety and doesn't use one's energy efficiently...
Depression has been callled the common cold of the mind but when it is clinical depression then it is more like flu. My approach is to accept the feeling and this helps to deal with it. Discussion of the ways in which it can be alleviated involve Mindfulness, exercise and looking at the thoughts which may increase feelings of depression It is good to keep a diary so that helpful thoughts are recorded and unhelpful thoughts too so one objectively remembers what one is dealing with and can note any improvement in daealing with such thoughts,.
Foi this I do telephone counselling and video sessions. Teams is a common one that I use.
I deal with phobias through systematic desensitisation. This is to practice being more calm and relaxed in the presence of the phobia one is dealing with for example fear of flying.
I use a Junguan approach for this as he brought spirituality into his practice and it is important to see it as an adjunct to the therapeutic method.
