A well-known fact in the fields of counselling and psychotherapy is that healing can only take place in the context of the collaborative therapeutic relationships between therapists and their clients. Promoting the development of such a relationship through listening, empathy and understanding becomes my main priority from the very early stages of my work. Once specific therapeutic goals have been mutually agreed, I look for problem-maintaining patterns, failed attempted solutions and potential strengths to help clients understand the context in which difficulties arise, consider other possible interpretations and identify possible solutions and new ways of relating.
I am an experienced systemic counsellor and psychotherapist helping individuals, couples and families experiencing conflict, distress and complex relational issues. My approach to psychotherapy is based on the simple premise that life's problems can be broadly classed as those we can influence and do something about, and those we need to learn to come to terms with in order to move on. I offer clients my expertise, sympathy and understanding, which, added to their own expertise and knowledge about their lives, can create new possibilities at times when everything seems lost.
Systemic family therapy is a branch of Psychotherapy that promotes change and emotional growth through the shared exploration of conflict and troubling experiences, and helps find possible solutions to difficult situations. Family Therapy can be short term, with a focus on one or two issues agreed by all parties, or can cover a wider range of problems over a longer period. Either way, the number of sessions can be agreed between the therapist and the family or individual.
