I have experience in using different approaches in therapy depending on the presenting issues. Every family is different and following an initial assessment, I would hope to approach therapy collaboratively. From a systemic perspective I tend to use a ‘narrative approach’ to help families/couples think and talk about the difficulties they are experiencing in their relationships. This approach would try and explore with them how past/present experiences have impacted on relationships and how thinking about things differently can help lead to change.
Hello, I am Joanne. I have been a family therapist in the NHS for over 20yrs. I have recently retired from working with young people and their families in Camhs and now I am offering family therapy privately. I have also worked as a family therapist in Adult Psychological Services. I work with families facing difficulties with mental health issues which are then impacting on communication/relationships within the family. I am fully qualified and experienced Systemic Family Therapist/Systemic Supervisor. I qualified as a Family therapist in 1997 having worked within child & adolescent services for many years. I have recently retired from Oxford Health NHS Trust where I worked as a Lead Family Therapist for more than 20 yrs. I Also worked for 2 years as a Principle Family Therapist in Adult Psychological Services within Oxford Health. I have worked extensively with families/parents/couples
who have experienced mental health/relationship issues within the family.
As a systemic supervisor I have supervised many other family therapists and systemic trainees over the years.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
