My Approach

I am qualified in both person centred psychotherapy and cognitive behaviour therapy.

About Me

My name is Jo Powell and I am a qualified and experienced psychotherapist and supervisor.

I aim to provide a non-judgmental space that is confidential to any individuals or couples wanting to deal with anything that causes distress or difficulty. I can work both long term and shorter term, this is something that is usually discussed in an initial session where we get to know each other a little more. My intention is to listen and support you, to help and empower you, not necessarily give you advice or tell you how to ‘fix’ everything.

I also offer supervision to both trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, as well as offering a range of training sessions and continuing professional development sessions. I am currently accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy and based in Nottingham in the East Midlands, and work to their code of ethics ensuring I offer a safe space for you to feel comfortable and able to talk about anything you would like to.

  • Private healthcare referrals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

As a qualified and experienced Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, I can integrate my learning and understanding of the evidence base for different types of anxiety, and build it into a relational approach.
I have experience in working with diverse client, considering the impact of sexuality on their identify, and their mood/anxiety. I consider this in how I work with you, creating a collaborative approach that takes into account your individual differences.
