My Approach

I am a qualified and experienced integrative psychotherapist, counsellor and supervisor with thirty five years of experience working with patients and clients in NHS and private settings. I am an accredited member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and a member of BICA the British Infertility Counselling Association.

I offer both long and short-term counselling and psychotherapy for individuals who are either in crisis or exploring personal development issues, difficult decisions and dilemmas. I describe myself as a developmental, relational and emotionally focused therapist, where patterns of relating to oneself and other people are explored with a particular focus on emotions and how/if they are expressed effectively. A central principle of my work is to help create a confidential, honest and open relationship between us. This relationship often mirrors relationships in life and can be used as a safe and creative place to make changes and choices that can then be transferred into the world outside the therapy room. In the course of our work we may explore patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour from childhood to the present with the aim of making positive changes.

People often seek therapy because their potential for happiness, success and contentment is not being fulfilled and they feel lost, 'stuck' and perhaps desperate. My aim is to help you fulfil your potential in these areas of your life.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have experience supporting people with anxiety in all different settings and due to different causes either within themselves, relationships or in their interactions and experience of the world in general. I help people to understand and manage feelings, regulate emotions, tolerate distress and put feelings into words, increasing self confidence, self awareness and emotional intelligence and literacy.
I have a particular interest in supporting people with depression with an aim to relieve distress, heal harm and enjoy life again. Depression can be caused by one or multiple factors and can be related to past or present issues or a combination of both. It can effect every area of a person's life and impact their internal and external world with devastating effects leading to further losses in life. I believe our time is precious and that healing from depression is possible in the therapeutic relationship.
I have worked with people and their relationships throughout my healthcare and mental health career. I am passionate about optimising the way we relate to ourselves and others and making the most of our lives. Relationships are where many of our problems originate and also the way we find healing in our connection in therapy and improved connections with others as a result. I am interested in how we relate, how we think about ourselves and others, feel about ourselves and others and how we behave towards ourselves and others. Where patterns are unhelpful I am interested and curious about the experiences and the potential and possibility of change.
I have broad experience treating trauma which relates to recent or past circumstances and in both NHS and charitable settings. I have worked with young people and with women for six years in a specialist service offering support with issues of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, childhood neglect and emotional abuse. I have experience of supporting people with post traumatic stress and complex post traumatic within both long term medium term and short term therapeutic settings.
I have eight years experience of working in a specialist workplace setting in the NHS and have skills in helping with adjustment to change, loss and transitions, bullying and harassment, complaints and grievance, retirement and redundancy, fitness to practice, health issues and discrimination.
