My Approach

I am a Constructivist Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Coach.
This approach starts by assuming that the way in which each of us experience and understand the world in which we live is a unique process.

From this perspective, our understandings of the events in our lives as well as our cultural and social world are central to our sense of self, the decisions we make, the options we see available to us and the way we act and interact with others.

Constructivist therapy is a joint venture between therapist and client which involves establishing a collaborative working relationship based on trust and respect. Through listening to those who seek help and gentle questioning and encouragement, I help people to explore and understand their difficulties in ways that allow them to feel safe. In this way, my clients and I work alongside each other to develop the potential for alternative ways of understanding, experiencing and interacting with the world that allows a greater sense of choice and freedom.

Sometimes we may feel stuck or find ourselves acting in ways that don't seem to help us and while we are all accustomed to solving problems in our day to day lives, sometime solutions do not seem so easy to find and we may benefit from talking therapies from a therapy specialist.

About Me

I work therapeutically with both individuals and couples.
I am qualified in Personal Construct Psychology (PCP) Psychotherapy and Counselling and have also completed level 1 training in Gottman Couples Therapy and use Gottman techniques in my work with couples.
Personal Construct Psychology is an adaptable, forward thinking and optimistic psychology which lends itself to use in a wide variety of contexts and I use it in both my therapeutic and educational work.

My approach is respectful, sensitive and patient. I seek to understand the issues, dilemmas and challenges that each person brings in order to help them to discover new options and alternatives so that they can enrich their lives and move forwards as they work through life's many challenges.

I offer Psychotherapy and Counselling appointments both online and face to face in Perth (Scotland). Outdoor "walk and talk" appointments are also available.

I welcome anyone who has a problem or concern that would benefit from a psychological approach.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Building deeper, lasting connections which last a lifetime isn't always easy. In couples therapy we can address the areas of the relationship which aren't working just now, learn different ways to have the conversations which tend to lead us into difficulties while nurturing and building on the strengths that are already there. The Gottman couples therapy method has been developed from a very robust research base spanning many decades. I approach couples therapy through a constructivist lense while drawing on the techniques and work of John and Julie Gottman.
Life events happen, time moves on and our identities change as we move through it all. At times we can find ourselves feeling confused about who we are. Speaking with a professional can help us to discover who we are now in the light of our experiences as well as help us move towards becoming the person we really want to be.
Parenting is a tough job and it is not unusual for parents to need a little bit of extra help from time to time to understand what is going on in their family and explore how they want to progress through situations that arise. Parents often lack confidence and a non judgemental, safe space to express their concerns and become clearer about how they would like to parent can make all the difference.
