I aim to offer a safe place where you can talk, and we can reflect upon your life together. Initially I will help you contain and manage your distress or symptoms. Then we will jointly explore your past and current experience, hopefully providing inspiration and challenging you to gain greater understanding, direction and self confidence. You are likely to become more aware of the impact of your past events on your current experience, and the underlying reasons behind your thoughts, feelings and the dynamics in your relationships. Our work will also provide an opportunity for you to work through and process the effects of past trauma and loss. We will then work as a team to ensure that you make any changes that you think are necessary in your life.
As an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, I have been trained in a variety of theoretical approaches and I adapt my approach to the needs of each individual person. Rather than adhere rigidly to one set of theories and techniques, I draw from an array of different theories and ideas from the fields of traditional psychoanalysis and contemporary psychodynamic theory, developmental research, psychology and existential philosophy. I also refer to a body of knowledge developed for specialist areas such as working with trauma, bereavement or dementia.
I see clients in Islington, at Barnsbury Therapy Rooms (near to Upper Street) and in Highbury. In addition to my private practice I have 17 years’ experience of supporting people for organisations such as Mind, Age UK, Victim Support and mental health projects. I trained at Regent’s College School of Psychotherapy and Counselling Psychology, one of the UK's leading training institutions which is known for its rigorous professional and academic standards.
My professional background includes qualification as a life coach and a previous 12 year career in marketing.
