My Approach

I am a Psychotherapist that uses a wide approach to my work with clients. For some this might involve talking about what they are struggling with, and for others it might involve other play and activities. I don't have a plan or an agenda, and will work with clients in a way that works best for them. I work with Children, Young People and with Adults.

My non-judgemental approach means that I work well with diversity - I have a lot of experience with LGBTQ+ clients, and also with neuro-diverse clients (people who experience the world with Autism/ADHD etc).

I also have experience working with sexual trauma, and I take a trauma-informed approach.

My therapy 'model' includes elements of person-centred approaches, an existential thread and I look towards theories of attachment theory and how ideas of care/love might shape our experiences in life.

About Me

I am James (He/Him), a Midlands based Psychotherapist qualified to work with both adults and children. I currently work from a therapy and counselling centre in the centre of Birmingham. As well as private clients I also work with clients referred via the NHS (from Forward Thinking Birmingham).

I have an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy (Adults and Children) from Newman University. It was during my studies that I really felt the impact of therapy through my own personal therapy sessions, and the changes that it can bring, even when you are uncertain as to whether change is actually happening.

My experience includes working with children (aged five upwards), both in a school and in a therapy practice, and with adult in a variety of settings including clients attending a specialist sexual violence service. At times my sessions will include more talking, but also for many clients my work includes play and other activities.
