I value diversity in all it’s forms and have lived a life rich in change within different cultural and professional contexts. I believe the therapeutic relationship is important for change and usually we will know early on if “we click” and If I can be helpful
I see Systemic and Family Psychotherapy as a talking therapy that aims to reduce conflict and troubles and the difficult feelings and emotions that are likely associated with these. Rather than seeing one person as the problem I think about the more or less useful patterns of interaction and dynamics that happen between people.
In therapy we work together towards identifying and considering those no longer relevant relational/personal patterns and take steps towards change. I aim to create a space for everyone to feel and be listened to. I also aim to minimize blame, guilt and shame, whilst also facilitating reflection and accountability. Conversations in therapy include humour and laughter and incorporate other aspects of lived experience which bring joy and connection.
I work mainly with couples, families and individuals (adults and adolescents). I specialise in working with suicidal and non suicidal self harm, eating disorders, anxiety, depression and out of parental control young people. With over 25 years working in child and adolescent mental health I have skills to work with a wide range of mental health and well-being presentations
I grew up and lived in Colombia and moved to London in 1994. Graduated as a Systemic and Family Psychotherapist and then as Systemic teacher, trainer and supervisor in 2000. My career has been mainly working in CAMHS with families, adolescents and couples; offering clinical supervision, delivering training, lecturing and offering consultation. My areas of expertise and interest include self harm and thoughts of suicide, eating disorders, out of parental control teens, anxiety and depression and couples and families in conflict. I have been very fortunate to attend extensive training and to work in teams at the forefront of clinical excellence and innovative practice. I am a keen kayaker and love the outdoors, particularly the sea.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
