I use a humanistic integrative approach in my work with children and young people. This places great importance on the relationship between therapist and child. In my work I am totally child centred, meeting the needs of the individual child at their particular stage of development. I build strong, positive relationships with each child enabling them to explore their feelings and process trauma in a safe way.
I incorporate many types of activity into my sessions including talking therapy, play therapy and art therapy. I encourage creative activities as a means of helping the child to express themselves.
I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor for children and young people. Previous to my training I have 30 years of experience as a teacher. I chose to move out of the classroom in order to work therapeutically with children and young people. As well as offering private therapy services I work for a service providing counselling for children and young people who have been affected by domestic violence. I have also worked in a primary school supporting children with a range of issues including anxiety, depression and bereavement.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
