I am an attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapist and supervisor. In practice, this means I work to understand how our very early lives effect us and the way we relate to others in our present lives. Our earliest experiences, often from before we develop conscious memory, can profoundly impact how we live our lives. Often these are helpful, but those whose emotional needs were not consistently met in childhood can get stuck in unhelpful and possibly unhealthy ways of relating to ourselves and to others. My job is to help you identify, understand and change these, sometimes through reflecting on the way the therapist and client relate in the session. This supports the development of more healthy and helpful ways to relate, leading to permanent change.
I qualified as a psychotherapist in 2014 and have been working in private practice ever since. In 2020, I gained a Diploma in Relational Supervision from Relational Change, thus qualifying me to supervise other psychotherapists and counsellors.
Before becoming a psychotherapist, I worked as an HCPC registered dietitian for over 20 years. For more than half of this, I specialised in working with eating disorders, both in the NHS and in private medical care. Please note, I am no longer practicing as a dietitian.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
