Life is one long process of change and transformation. In times of distress, there can often seem to be nowhere to turn. I believe that psychotherapy provides a space in which to consider difficult issues and explore them in a dialogue that can assist clients to find their own perspective and position in the world. Through developing the therapeutic relationship in an empathetic and safe space, I hope to help clients link those past and present experiences that have led to entrenched patterns of behaviour so that it becomes possible for them to challenge deep-seated (or sedimented) beliefs and learn to create an increasingly comfortable space inside and around themselves, despite external constraints.
Some of the areas that clients may wish to explore with me include:
changes in personal circumstances such as adolescence, becoming a parent, and old age;
life crises like bereavement, divorce, and terminal illnesses; and
relationships, both personal and social, including difficulties at work.
I have twenty years of experience working with people from many different backgrounds aged 17 to 80+ as a UKCP-accredited Integrative Psychotherapist who also has a strong interest in attachment theory. My training, which draws on a range of different backgrounds from psychodynamic to humanistic and existential therapies, allows me to provide the form of therapy appropriate to the issue that someone is presenting and to the stage of life at which they find themselves. I also bring to my work the experience of having worked previously in a variety of health care settings in Italy and South Africa. Additionally, being Italian, but living in Britain, means that I can offer therapy in both Italian and English, as well as making me particularly attuned to other people's experience of cultural differences.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
